Two men charged after an undercover police operation at The Daktory, Wellington's cannabis club, have received bail.
Both men were arrested on Friday night and appeared in court on Saturday where their bail was opposed and they were remanded into custody. Protesters loudly called for them not to be caged outside Wellington District Court on Monday. And police told Judge Craig Thompson that on review their bail was no longer opposed. John Hendrick Middeldorp, 67, and Dakta Green, 68, were remanded and will reappear in court on September 23. Defence lawyer Sonia Thistoll told the judge that police had closed the club down and Green would be able to return to his address there. Police asked that Green have a bail condition that he not possess or consume illegal drugs, which he opposed on the basis he uses the drug to manage pain. However the judge pointed out that he had to impose that condition. The men are not allowed to have contact. A group of supporters applauded from the public gallery once the hearings were over. Both men are charged with possessing cannabis for supply, supplying cannabis baked goods, and supplying to an undercover police officer. They have not pleaded to the charges. - stuff.co.nz |
